Board Certified and Fellowship trained in spinal surgery

Dr. E. Jeffrey Donner specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal pain involving the entire spine including the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacroiliac areas. He has 25 years of experience performing thousands of spinal surgeries including using many innovative surgical techniques to help his patients with disabling spinal pain.

He is a member of numerous societies including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, the Spinal Arthroplasty Society, the International Spinal Intervention Society, and the International College of Surgeons. He has recently taken on the role of program champion for the American Orthopedic Association fragility fracture quality improvement program called Own the Bone. He is the former president of Larimer County Medical Society and the president elect of the Northern Colorado Medical Society. Dr. Donner has presented at multiple national and international spinal symposiums on the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of spinal problems, and he has published articles in several scientific journals in addition to authoring chapters on a variety of spinal issues including the diagnosis and treatment of disabling whiplash injuries, diagnosis and treatment of cervicogenic headaches, and innovative minimally invasive surgical techniques for treating chronic sacroiliac dysfunction and pain.

Dr. Donner has extensive interest and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with chronic disabling sacroiliac (SI) joint pain. He has performed successful spinal surgery in hundreds of patients from nearly half of the states in the United States. He continues to find ways and technology to successfully diagnose and treat these patients. He has founded SI-Technology, a spinal implant development company which develops innovative technology to diagnose and treat patients with chronic SI joint pain. The company’s headquarters is at the Innosphere, the Fort Collins biomedical incubator supported by the state of Colorado, Colorado State University, and the City of Fort Collins. They have been issued multiple national and international patents and are in the process of obtaining FDA clearance for effective minimally invasive sacroiliac stabilization and fusion technology. They also have multiple other spine related technology and development.

He has also been co-investigator in numerous FDA IDE trials of evaluation of cervical and lumbar motion-preservation (artificial disc replacement) technology. He continues to study and institute new and less invasive techniques and technology to help his patients return to active improved lifestyles with less pain. This not only includes surgical treatment but also in-office pain management procedures such as epidural steroid injections and regenerative medicine in the form of platelet rich plasma and stem cell technology.

Dr. Donner co-founded Rocky Mountain Associates in Orthopedic Medicine in 1991 as well as the Spine Institute. He recently created the Colorado Spine Institute (CSI) where he continues to serve the community with experience, innovative technology, and commitment to solving every patient’s spinal problems. He is board certified orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in the management of spinal disorders with a spine fellowship completed at the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has a unique qualification in that he was recently re-certified through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery via the spine specialist pathway but also through a very intensive certification with the American Board of Spine Surgery in 2014. He is the only spinal surgeon north of the Denver metro area to have dual board certification which further defines his commitment to the spinal field and ability to understand and treat complex spinal problems.
