The Columbia United Methodist Church was formed by the consolidation of three United Methodist Churches at Fifth and Walnut Streets in 1992. First United Methodist Church at Second and Cherry Streets, the earliest Church, began in 1803; Salome United Brethren began in 1860; Cookman United Methodist at Sixth and Chestnut began in 1876.

The Lead Pastor at CUMC is Reverend Tom Grubbs. There are two services on Sunday morning; Contemporary with a praise band at 9:00AM and Traditional with a chancel choir and organist at 11:00 AM. Sunday School is offered for all ages groups at 10:05 AM.

The CUMC outreach programs make the church available to many organizations including the Columbia Senior Center, Weight Watchers, AA, Community Life Network, Careerlink, various scouting units for boys and girls, Chamber of Commerce, etc.

CUMC is fully handicapped accessible including an elevator to access the basement, fellowship hall, kitchen and Sunday School classrooms.
