More about Commonweal

Founded in 1976, Commonweal conducts programs that contribute to human and ecosystem health—to a safer world for people and for all life—through a program focus in four areas:

HEALING
• Commonweal Cancer Help Program—a weeklong residential program for people with cancer
• Institute for the Study of Health and Illness—helps health professionals restore principles of healing to the practice of medicine
• Healing Kitchens Institute—educates individuals and communities about the power of food as medicine and nourishment
• Healing Yoga Foundation—dedicated to health, healing, and personal development through yoga
• Institute for Art and Healing—sustains the intersecting fields of art and healing

ENVIROMENT AND HEALTH
• Collaborative on Health and the Environment—a catalyst for civil discourse and collaborative initiatives regarding environmental impacts on human health
• Commonweal Biomonitoring Resource Center—uses knowledge about environmental chemicals in our bodies to promote individual and human resilience

EDCUATION AND ARTS
• The New School at Commonweal—convenes conversations with people working to encourage awareness of the deep interconnectedness of personal and planetary health
• The Regenerative Design Institute at Commonweal Garden—offers a new model of ecological education and training in regenerative design and construction practices
The Commonweal Gallery holds rotating exhibitions of local and international artists, located at the Commonweal Main Building in Bolinas

JUSTICE
• Commonweal Juvenile Justice Program—advocates for reforms in California juvenile justice
• Integrative Law Institute—returns the practice of law to its original purpose: helping resolve conflict
