The Community Supper, housed in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, is a free community dinner for all residents of the Algonac/Clay Township area. Every month on the third Wednesday of the month, as well as weekly during Advent and Lent, volunteers gather at the Lutheran Church to cook and serve a nutritious meal free of charge, (but we do accept a free will offering to help defray the expense).
This is a community outreach program which helps in many ways. First of all, families and seniors on a limited budget can get a good, nutritious meal free of charge, thus helping them stretch their budget. Secondly, residents new to the area can come and meet their neighbors, and old friends can meet over a meal. Third, we are able to provide information and resources that may be available in the area to assist our neighbors in many ways. Lastly, it can be a good evening out of the house – free of charge! Where else can you go to get a free meal without having to shop, prepare, cook, and clean up?
We are told by God to care for, and share with our neighbors – but make no mistake, this is not church-driven. Our volunteers are members of the various churches in the area, as well as those who do not attend a church, and preaching is not dished up with the dessert. If there are any questions, of course, we are more than willing to provide information regarding services and support in the area by request.
So, come to our Community Supper and check us out!
See you there!!
