Compass Health

For more than 110 years, Compass Health has been providing innovative mental health services to children and adults from all walks of life suffering from mental illness. Compass Health is a community-based behavioral health organization and our services are provided in neighborhood clinics close to home so that our clients can be supported by family and friends during difficult times. We provide services to individuals in Snohomish, Skagit, Island, San Juan, and Whatcom Counties. Most individuals who receive our services are on Medicaid, and many are homeless. Clients and/or their families typically have incomes below 50% of area median income, with many below 30%.

Compass Health was first established as Parkland Lutheran Children's Home in 1901, to care for orphaned children in Western Washington. In 1953, we hired our first psychiatrist and began providing mental health care for the children who lived at our home. In 1963, Congress passed the Community Mental Health Act, creating community-based service models and allowing for the deinstitutionalization of the mentally ill.

Compass Health is able to offer a breadth and depth of services unusual in Western Washington. We strive to offer a full continuum of care to the clients we serve, allowing them to stay with one agency as they move toward recovery and sustainability. Having a full array of services within the same agency allows us to ensure optimal coordination between treatment providers, eliminates access barriers to getting the right service at the right time, and creates a full safety net for our clients as they move from one phase of treatment to another. Our programs have grown and changed to reflect the needs of the community, and this flexibility has led to us becoming the largest and one of the most well respected mental health agencies in Western Washington.
