Chuck started shooting sporting clays in 1989 with clubs using manual traps at the time. In 1991 Chuck bought his first automatic traps for his own personal use to make a 5-Stand. The traps were Pro-Matic single stack called the Junior. When clubs in the surrounding area states found out about his 5-Stand they wanted to rent the traps to use at their tournaments. This was the start of CVSC and the trap rental business to clubs and small groups, which hired Chuck to come in and run the 5-Stand during shoots. Lori started joining Chuck on the road in 1995. As the demand for more automatic traps began to come forth, they began purchasing more traps and a trailer that would carry 24 traps. In 1998 CVSC was hired to rent traps for the US Open in GA with a load of 40 traps. This eventually increased to 50 traps in the trailer. Chuck became very well known in the sporting clays world with trap rentals and then target setting began to be requested by many of the clubs for major tournaments and several US Opens. As the demand for more trap rentals continued to be requested, they put a second truck on the road in the spring of 2001, also with 50 traps and continued this until 2004.

At the end of 2001, Chuck decided to try his luck as range owner and leased a facility in Washington, NC. He nurtured a major shoot of his own, the East Coast Championship. This has been one of the larger shoots in the US for many years, averaging 350+ shooters.
