More about Connection Point Church of God

Connection Point does not have one story. We are the merging of many different stories. We are the story of every individual and every family here. We are the story of a city loved by God and in need of renewal. We are the story of three churches that decided to tear down our walls, lay down our egos, and join together to make Jesus and his good news known to the city of Asheville.

Our story began with West Asheville Church of God and Pastor Kevin Chapman. Kevin moved to Asheville in 2011 with a vision to see God move in this city. He did not realize, at the time, how his journey would become like that of a pioneer. Shortly after becoming the Pastor at West Asheville, God begin to show His congregation a path they had never considered. A path that involved selling and leaving the property where they had worshiped for decades, in search of a new place with a fresh vision. They began a journey like nomads and pioneers, driven only by the faith that God had greater things in store for them.

Our story continues with Candler Church of God. Located on the West side of Asheville, this congregation was also on a journey they never expected. God was also doing something among them, leading them to a place where they too would get a fresh new vision of God’s plan for their church. It was at this time where our first two congregations’ paths crossed. Then, in 2013, these two congregations joined and became known as Connection Point Church of God. But, God was still leading them… like a fire by day and a cloud by night.

Our story now picks up with New Harvest Church and Pastor Daniel Rushing. After being planted in 2004, this congregation had been on a journey filled with lots of unexpected turns and twists. Now, God was leading them too into unknown territory. The writing was on the wall, and they knew it was time to do something unheard of, to give in to whatever it was God was trying to do with them. Pastors Kevin and Daniel started to forge a friendship that blossomed into a vision that was so compelling neither of them could let it rest. It could not be ignored, and in the Fall of 2014 New Harvest decided to merge with Connection Point.

It is at the old New Harvest campus in N. Asheville where these nomads and visionaries now worship together. Three congregations, with three unique stories of their own, converge as one church, with one Lord, having one faith, and working on one mission.

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going… For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.”
Hebrews 11:8,10 ESV
