CosmosID was founded in 2008 by molecular microbiologist, Dr. Rita Colwell, Distinguished University Professor at the University of Maryland at College Park and at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Colwell was the 11th Director of the National Science Foundation from 1998 to 2004 and the recipient of the 2006 National Medal of Science of the United States and the 2010 Stockholm Water Prize. Dr. Colwell is a member of the National Academy of Science and has authored or co-authored 17 books and more than 750 scientific publications. Through her scientific leadership, CosmosID is focused on providing innovative solutions for the increasing need of rapid microbial identification and pathogen diagnosis.
