The Beginning of Covenant Church

On November 14, 1976, Covenant Church held our first service at the Lion’s Club in Harrisburg. Every Sunday, men and women would gather and worship the one true King. People opened their homes where children attended Sunday school to learn about Jesus. Families were reconnecting with one another, their community—and more importantly—God. Foundations were being rebuilt, souls were being saved, and seeds were being planted.

As the congregation grew, Covenant Church began meeting at The Store Front on Highway 49. Team members built small dividers to help create a sanctuary and Sunday school room. Our hope never wavered—we knew that God’s plan for the Harrisburg area was far greater than what we could fathom. In 1977, Pastor Charles Efird was called to Covenant to continue to lead God’s sheep. For twenty-three years he faithfully served God, his community, and the members of our church.

For six years, Covenant Church continued to seek God’s heart for His people inside of The Store Front and behind the doors of our homes. We faithfully began planting seeds for a building and finally, after prayers and thanksgiving, God blessed us with the property that we now call the home of Covenant Church.

Celebrating Forty Years in 2017

This year, Covenant Church celebrates forty years serving God in the Harrisburg area. Over time, we’ve broken bread with our neighbors. We’ve seen families restored. We’ve watched men and women fall in love and marry. We’ve celebrated birth and celebrated the beginning of life in Heaven. We’ve come together in tragedy and rejoiced in triumph. And yet the greatest thing we’ve seen is witnessing someone give their life to the Lord.

Today, Covenant Church continues to be a staple in the Harrisburg area. People of all ages and backgrounds continue to gather here in order to start a revolution, not just in Harrisburg, but all over the world.
