Our love affair with Tenrecs started about 10 years ago when I took a volunteer position in my local zoo's education department which luckily had tenrecs in their collection. Over the almost 9 years I was at the facility, I watch one generation of this awesome species age while younger generation reached breeding age and begin having litters of their own. After leaving, I discovered you could purchase tenrecs in the private sector and here I am today.
With just one breeding pair of tenrec, each baby gets the time and attention they need to make loving pets. We spent months selecting the best pair from the best bloodlines in the country to make sure that every animal that leaves our breeding program is free of preventable genetic disease and with lesser hedgehog tenrecs becoming more and more threatened by habitat destruction maintaining captive genetic diversity is even more vital.
