The Department of Theatre Arts offers three basic undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree, with opportunities for options in Performance (acting/directing), Technical Theatre (scenery/costume/lighting design), and General Theatre. Its producing entity, the University Players, produces 6 main stage shows per season.
The Department also offers three masters emphases of study: Management (MBA/MFA), Acting (MFA) and Design (MFA - Lighting, Costuming and Scenic). Its producing entity, the California Repertory Company (Cal Rep), produces 4 main stage shows per season in the Royal Theatre aboard the Queen Mary.
Chair of the Department, Anne D'Zmura, recently established the Department's Affinity Series, in which collaborators and guest artists are invited to perform, present or join students for panel discussions in special one-night-only events that are Free of charge. With this free series, the Department hopes to continue to generate new interest in the performing arts by offering accessible, relevant offerings for a variety of audiences.
Additionally, the Department of Theatre Arts continues to seek new ways in which to collaborate with Long Beach and Los Angeles-based artists and theatre companies, and is continuously seeking opportunities to invite Department Alumni to come back to CSULB to work with current students.
