Experience:
Inspiring young minds is my passion. Seeing a student experience success and then aspire to excel brings me great pride and personal joy. Once a student feels successful, the learning possibilities are endless. Over the past 13 years, I have taught students from kindergarten to fifth grade. My goal is to develop an educational experience for each student to match their learning style and specific needs. This dedication includes students of all educational backgrounds including gifted / talented students and students with individual education plans.

Education:
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a Master’s degree in reading instruction. As a certified reading specialist and veteran classroom teacher, I have proven success in closing the reading gap for struggling students. Furthermore, my extensive training in diagnostic testing enables to me target specific areas of deficit to assist students in reaching their highest potential. As a teacher who is eager to learn alongside her students, I am fortunate to have taught for 13 years in a school district that values forward thinking and encouraged my growth as an educator.

I have exceptional experience with the Common Core framework and designing lessons to meet the high expectations.

Success Stories:
At a school board meeting, my principal chose to highlight many of my students due to the amazing growth they made in just one school year.

My students continually exceeded district growth expectations on MAP testing.

As a reading specialist, a frustrated student came to me after not make notable progress for half of the school year. He did not see himself as a reader. Once I began reading interventions with him, he found success and the look on his face proved it all. He was finally proud of his accomplishments and he was now able to love learning and reading!

I had the distinct pleasure of working with one of the most gifted students I have ever met. I enjoyed creating challenging projects to further develop her academic talents in a way that she was truly passionate about.

I worked with a student who was working to manage bipolar disorder. Together we broke though many behavior struggles and he experienced academic and social success.

I was chosen by the district superintendent of curriculum to teach a student who at the age of 8 had never been to school, only knew a couple of the letters in the alphabet, and couldn't write a single word. He began 2 months into the school year and with specific reading interventions he was able to successfully read a second grade reading passage by the end if the school year and write a simple 5 paragraph essay.

My Inspiration:
Early in my career, Dr. Michael Heggerty, a leader in education, became a role model and inspiration to my career.
His passion taught me how contagious the love for learning can be. I have carried that passion with me throughout my years of teaching. I work everyday to inspire children the way he inspired me.
