Culver Summer School of Aviation

Culver first offered flight instruction in 1920 with the use of surplus World War I floatplanes that operated on Lake Maxinkuckee. In 1972 Culver became the first High School in the United States to own and operate its own airport. Having outgrown the small campus airfield, Culver has operated from its new hangar facility located at the Starke County Airport in Knox, Indiana.

To ensure the highest quality instruction, Culver has contracted a Part 141 Flight School, JA Flight Training, to provide aircraft and instructors. The Certified Flight Instructors will provide classroom ground school lectures, flight training, and flight simulator instruction. Culver uses the excellent Cessna Pilot Course, an online syllabus that is certifed by the Federal Aeronautics Administration. JA Air pilots have used the Cessna course curriculum for several years and are thorougly familiar and standardized with the syllabus.

In 2012, Culver purchased state-of-the-art flight simulators that feature full-vision and motion. These simulators are certified for instruction by the FAA, thereby allowing our students to log official instructed hours in their logbooks. Culver has flight simulator training available both on campus and at our airport hangar facility.
