History Highlights of Curé of Ars
Late 1950’s
• Archbishop Edward J. Hunkeler established a new parish to serve the Catholic families in Leawood and sections of Prairie Village and Overland Park (1959).
1960’s
• Completion of Curé of Ars Catholic Church and its official dedication with Father Paul Kelley appointed as Pastor (1961).
• Church seated 800 presbyters with a Parish Hall, Rectory and Parish Office were established within the remaining acreage (1961).
• A convent was built in 1967.
1970’s
• Father George Burak succeeded Father Paul Kelley (1971).
• Father Robert A. Burger assumed the pastorate of Curé of Ars (1977).
1980’s
• Father Charles McGlinn was welcomed as pastor of Curé of Ars (1986).
1990’s
• Newly renovated school opened to parish children in the fall (1998).
2000’s
• Archbishop James P. Keleher dedicated the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, an addition to the south side of the main church; this enhancement was made possible through the generosity of parishioner, Margaret Reed (2001).
2010’s
• Renovation is completed and Archbishop Naumann dedicated the new altar (2014).
• Father Richard Storey succeeded Monsignor McGlinn as pastor after serving 28 years at Curé of Ars (2015).
