Located in east-central Alabama, Dadeville is the county seat and oldest city in Tallapoosa County. Named after Major Francis Langhorne Dade, Dadeville was chartered in 1837 and has been the county seat since 1838. Encompassing sixteen square miles, the Dadeville city limits contains the homes of 3,230 people at the time of the 2010 census.

Situated on the north-eastern shores of Lake Martin, Dadeville’s population increases exponentially during the summer months as seasonal residents return to enjoy the lake and laid back, small town atmosphere. During the Fourth of July weekend alone, the population of Tallapoosa County surges by over 100,000 people as visitors and seasonal residents flock to enjoy the area’s attractions. Dadeville is a growing community, though most of this growth occurs on the shores of Lake Martin. Dadeville, like many towns founded in the 1800s, is situated along a rail line and at the crossroads of what is now U.S. Highway 280 and Highway 49. Downtown, the Court Square surrounds the Tallapoosa County Courthouse and contains multiple buildings more than a hundred years old. Dadeville is also home to two nursing homes, three assisted living facilities, three schools, a hospital, and an industrial park containing several manufacturing plants.

The Dadeville Fire Department is an ISO Class 5/9 department, boasting a roster of twenty-two volunteer firefighters, three paid firefighters, two stations, seven apparatus, and a hazardous materials response trailer. Our primary coverage area spans forty-one square miles, approximately 5,800 year-round residents, and numerous seasonal households. Dadeville Fire Department has a secondary response area that includes portions of Jacksons Gap, Camp Hill, Eagle Creek, Buttston, and Stillwaters Fire Districts. On average, Dadeville Fire responds to 130 emergency calls within the primary coverage area and assists sister departments as needed. Since the Dadeville Fire District covers a diverse range of environments – ranging from timberland to industrial, rail transportation to roadways – and possible emergencies, the Dadeville Fire Department trains for, and responds to, many types of emergency calls. As a predominately volunteer department, we strive to deliver the highest quality fire protection, not because it is our job, but because we love the community.

We have many opportunities for involvement available, so if you are interested in volunteering with us or seeing what it is all about, please stop by the station or let us know! We are always looking for good people to become firefighters, but even if you do not want to run into burning buildings, we still have a spot for you!
