More about Dakota Leathernecks Detachment #1419

The Dakota Leathernecks Detachment #1419 of the Marine Corps League (MCL) was chartered 2 Jun 2014. Formed after three months of organizational meetings, members are comprised of Marines from several generations and decades of service to the USMC. We are conjoined with associate members that support the efforts/mission/causes of the Marine Corps and the Marine Corps League. Our program of work is dynamic and diverse addressing the needs of our Marines, their families and the community in which we, now, serve!

In 1923, a few veterans Marines of World War I hosted a gathering of fellow Marines. This momentum spread as other Marines assembled reviving their friendship and camaraderie. The MCL perpetuates the traditions and spirit of all Marines and Navy Corpsmen who served in the Fleet Marine Force (FMF), and who proudly wear or have worn the eagle, globe, and anchor of the United States Marine Corp. Since its earliest days, the MCL has enjoyed the support and encouragement of Active-Duty and Reserve establishments of the USMC. The MCL takes great pride in crediting its founding to World War I hero, Major General Commandant John A. Lejeune. The MCL takes equal pride in its federal charter, approved by an Act of the Seventy-Fifth Congress of the United States of America, signed and approved by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 4, 1937. The MCL is the only federally-chartered USMC related Veterans organization in the country. The MCL is a not-for-profit organization in accordance with the provisions of the Internal Revenue Service Code 501(c) (4), and maintains a special group exemption letter allowing contributions to the MCL, and it’s Auxiliary and subsidiary units, to be tax-deductible.

Members of the MCL join together in camaraderie and fellowship preserving the traditions and promoting the interests of the USMC, as well as band together those who are now serving in the USMC, eligible FMF Corpsmen and FMF Chaplain, and those who have been honorably discharged from that service, so they may effectively promote the ideals of American freedom and democracy, voluntarily aid and render assistance to all Marines and former Marines and to their spouses, widows, orphans, and parents; and, perpetuate the history of the USMC, by fitting acts, to observe the anniversaries of historical occasions of particular interest to Marines.
