The Digital Arts Leadership and Innovation (DALI) lab is a research and development lab in the computer science department at Dartmouth College. We combine the latest design and technology practices to help non-profits, faculty, centers across campus and businesses communicate effectively. The best and brightest Dartmouth students (undergraduate and graduate) work in small teams of designers, developers and project managers. These teams work with partners to build technology tools that make complex ideas easy to understand, communicate data and research in meaningful ways, and use information systems to change behavior. We use a mix of compelling visuals (still and animated), clean interface and interaction design, and innovative technology to build tools to help solve a wide range of real-world communication challenges.
The DALI lab focuses on social justice and social entrepreneurship projects. We also work on clever, fun projects that push the envelope of design and technology, if we believe it has a meaningful real-world application. We work with engineers and doctors to build communication systems and interfaces for new medical devices and non-profits to display large data sets effectively. We are designing and creating a line of high end digital fashion and robots that can be used for urban planning.
DALI provides a space and framework for increased interaction and collaboration in a multi-disciplinary arena. The DALI lab process encourages team-based innovation and leadership.
Students, staff and faculty in the DALI lab, are passionate about the opportunity to help solve real-world problems. We enjoy working together with organizations and individuals who have an idea or vision, but need help creating the tools to make it a reality.
