Established in 2004, we began with just 4 goats...just to eat the blackberry bushes! We chose the Fainting Goat breed for their unique ability to lock up and fall over when startled or excited! Also called "Myotonic", these goats are the only breed with this unusual, genetic condition. This condition doesn't hurt them...it just embarrasses them a little when they "faint" They do not actually lose consciousness - their muscles lock up and they typically fall over for a few seconds then hop back up, look around to see if anyone was looking then go back to what they were doing :)
It's actually great entertainment and we call it "Goat TV!"
The other desirable thing about the Fainting Goats is their gentle personality and moderate size as compared to other breeds. The Myotonic condition also prohibits them from jumping over fences which is a huge plus!
Our original breeding does, Naomi and Ruthie, have produced some of the most beautiful offspring! Ruthie is polled (born without horns) and has blue eyes. Naomi (pictured on our logo) has a dramatic personality, LOVES to be dressed up and photographed, and produces beautifully marked kids.
Both of these girls now enjoy the company of some of their kids, grandkids and greatgrandkids, some who we have retained for breeding as well. We now regularly get blue eyed babies and polled babies as well.
As we began to breed these goats and the babies started arriving, their extreme cuteness made for awesome photo opportunities. These "photo shoots" soon evolved into the addition of costumes and props thus began the Goat Art business!
