Danish Athletic Club & Dining Room (DAC)

The Danish Athletic Club is a cozy social club serving homestyle Scandinavian food in Bay Ridge for 120 years! While it hosts several events, it also has a public dining room hidden away in the back.

There is a daily menu of about ten items, including salmon, pot roast, kjøttkaker (big Swedish meatballs), etc. For $15, each meal comes with mashed potatoes, a choice of salad or soup, and family-style steamed vegetables (cauliflower, carrots, broccoli), red cabbage, and whipped turnips. Dessert is sundae-style ice cream or pudding.

The dining room - a dim, wood-paneled room with white-clothed tables and simple china - is usually open 5-9 p.m., Wednesday-Saturday, and 1-9 p.m. on Sundays.

Despite the rumors, the club is not closed! While it hasn't been updated in a long time, which may turn some people away, it's biggest problem is location - auto body shops and a large restaurant take up most of the street space. It's an historic icon worth saving for its status as a community institution and its delicious food!
