Constructed by Francis A. Johnson, it weighs 17,400 pounds and has a circumference of approximately 40 feet. The ball is in a specially designed gazebo and is viewable 24-7. There is a museum/gift shop run by the Darwin Community Club behind the ball. The museum covers the history of both the ball of twine and the City of Darwin, MN. The museum has set hours in the summer but is always open by appointment. Souvenirs are also available at A Blue Moose Grill and Bar up the street.
