More about DAV Frank L. Bradford Ch 18 of Marshall County, Al

- Chapter 18 provides free transportation for veterans between the Guntersville
VA Clinic and the Birmingham VA Medical Center and for special clinic activities.
This service was initiated in January of 2012. Our van is driven on these trips by
DAV volunteers and other volunteers from the community. To arrange your
transportation, call Dick at (256) 505-3363.
- We provide assistance to veterans in obtaining their earned VA Benefits. This
service is provided by DAV Chapter volunteer Service Officers trained by DAV
National Service Officers annually.
- We provide donated food, clothing, furniture, medical equipment to needy
disabled and, or homeless veterans and their families. It is unknown when this
first started. The goods that we distribute are donated by members and friends
of our chapter.
- We provide limited financial grants to our needy members, veterans and their
families that are referred to us or who contact us on their own. Our Relief
Committee accesses the legitimacy of the need and if valid makes a motion to the chapter to provide an appropriate grant amount. The Chapter then votes on
whether to provide the grant and how much.
- We donate money to the Floyd E. Tut State Veterans home once or twice a
year for providing various items of clothing, snacks, etc. to the residents of the
home. We first started doing this in 2009.
- We provide a free coffee service for the staff and patients of the Guntersville
VA Clinic. This program was instituted when the clinic opened on its first day on
June 27, 2010.
- We provide appropriate education information to our members and veterans
about services and benefits that they have earned for serving their country.
- We provide information to our members about upcoming State or National
legislation that will effect veterans and their benefits and ask them to lobby their
appropriate representatives to express their support or lack of support.
- We host the DAV National Service Office Mobile Office during its annual service visits to Marshall County.
