I have first hand experience working and managing cows in an environment that allows them to excel. I learned nutrition from my dad, the great people at MSU, and the cows I feed. I started using spartan 2 and was one of the first users of spartan 3 that I still use today. In 2011 a auto feeder was installed on the farm and opened new doors for advancement in nutrition during early life. Changes allowed me to reach a calving age of less than 21 months for over 2 years now.
I grew up using computers and my first experience with herd management software was with pc-dart. I used pc-dart in combination with alpro windows, then transitioned to afi/pc-dart in 2009. Currently I use afi as our primary software and I love learning more about it everyday. I also utilize tmr tracker with a link to afi. With all of the advancements in tech. I have found that knowing the cow at a basic level one on one is still the key to being successful with these tools.
I love to dairy, and that will always be my focus. The areas I most enjoy are, nutrition, repro, animal health, and genetics. I hope to bring some of what I have learned to others, and at the same time continue to learn and apply for myself.
