More about Definitions Too Massage Therapy

MASSAGES WE OFFER:

-SWEDISH/AMERICAN- This is a treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. The disrobed client is covered by a sheet, with only the area being worked on exposed. A combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive, and tapping movements are used, with the application of oil, to reduce friction on the skin. The many benefits of this massage may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.

-DEEP TISSUE- A deep tissue massage is a therapeutic massage that focuses on the muscles that are causing the pain. Working and loosening up those muscle knots is what is going to allow the pain to subside. Muscle pain with deep tissue massage is normal. With a deep tissue massage more than one session is probably required to completely eliminate the chronic pain you are feeling. A single session of deep tissue massage will treat the area of pain but a single session may not treat related body areas that may be the root cause of the muscle tension. Regular sessions of deep tissue massage are recommended so that all major parts of the body are treated to re-establish muscular alignment.

--A deep tissue massage requires deep, slow movements. These slow, deep movements stretch and realign the muscles, thus allowing for pain relief. A cream is applied to perform these strokes which stretch and realign the muscles. Using hands, elbows and thumbs to apply pressure that will release the tension from these deeper muscle points.

-REFLEXOLOGY- Reflexology is an ancient healing art based on the belief that reflex points exist in the feet, hands, and ears that correspond to all parts of the body. A recent study shows that walking on specifically placed uneven, natural stones stimulates acupressure points in the feet and can improve circulation and reduce overall stress.

-SHIATSU*- Shiatsu is a style of bodywork developed in Japan. It is similar to acupuncture, but uses finger pressure instead of needles. Shiatsu's name comes from two Japanese words -- "shi" or finger and "atsu" or pressure. Shiatsu's goal is to restore the healthy flow of energy throughout the body. It is usually performed on a mat on the floor. The practitioner will use their fingers and thumbs to apply pressure to specific points on the body's energy pathways, known as meridiens. They often use other techniques such as rocking, stretches and joint rotations.Shiatsu treatment is holistic, addressing the whole body rather than focusing on the one area where symptoms are most obvious.

-DESERT STONE*- The deepest of them all. Feel at one again with Mother Earth as heated stones soothe your sore and tired muscles. This massage promotes circulation & can bring about a sense of well-being, comfort, and healing.

-SPA THERAPIES*- Using mineral salts, the body is vigorously scrubbed removing dry skin & leaving it soft & smooth while releasing impurities & increasing circulation.

-HEADACHE- A 30-minute massage on cervical trigger points improves the autonomic nervous system. Massage is done to ease the pressure brought on during a migraine, cluster, allergy, sinus or tension related headache. By focusing on the neck, shoulders, and head, massage can decrease the pain and discomfort brought on by the headache.

-COUPLES- "A memory that will last forever" Candlelight, Music, Togetherness. We transform our massage rooms, so that the couple will be able to receive their massage simultaneously.

-SPORTS- Blends deep Neuromuscular techniques with elements of Swedish to benefit a client's individual needs and goals. There are two types of Sports Massage:

--Event Sports Massage focuses mainly on the muscle groups relevant to a particular sport, and may be received before, during or after the sporting event.

--Regular Maintenance Sports Massage is used throughout training and off season training to enhance performance, and achieve peak performance potential.

-PRENATAL- 0-9 Months. Prenatal massage shares many of the goals of regular massage – to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good. But it's also tailored specifically to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies, and therapists who are trained in prenatal massage adjust their techniques accordingly.

-LOMI LOMI*- Lomi lomi is a Hawaiian massage, also known as the "loving hands" massage. This name helps to explain its principles - the massage works gently yet deeply into the muscles with continuous, flowing strokes, allowing the recipient to relax and give in to the nurturing touch. The long, continuous strokes of the massage are designed to help the body let go of its old patterns and behaviors, which can cause as many stresses and strains as muscle tension. It reflects the broad, flowing strokes made with the therapist's fingers, thumbs, palms, arms and elbows.

-FIBROMYALGIA- Massage therapy is actually one of the most beneficial treatments for fibromyalgia pain and fatigue. In fact, in a survey completed by fibromyalgia sufferers, massage therapy was rated the best fibromyalgia treatment option by an overwhelming margin. Massage therapy benefits include:

Increased blood circulation to the muscles, allowing for faster muscle repair
