Founded in 1911, the Delray Beach Police Department serves a population of approximately65,000 within the fifteen square miles of the City of Delray Beach. Headquarters is located adjacent to the city's vibrant downtown business and historic districts. The staff -- over one hundred and fifty sworn officers and eighty civilian employees -- comprises the Office of the Chief, Support Services, and Operations.
The department takes an aggressive approach to fighting criminal activities with a well educated and well trained staff and sophisticated computer technology. With more than one hundred officers patrolling the city, foot and bicycle patrols have been implemented to put officers closer to the community and to solicit civic support. As well, officers provide drug abuse resistance programs in the city's elementary and secondary schools as a means of preemptive crime prevention.
