The Gamma Pi Chapter of Delta Gamma was the first DG chapter in Virginia and the 81st DG chapter in the nation. When Roanoke College opened to national sororities, the local Sigma Kappa Phi, petitioned Delta Gamma. The Dean of Women reported that this was "the outstanding group" on campus. Gamma Pi was charted in 1955 and the first initiation was held on November 5, 1955 at Hotel Roanoke. The Chapter’s first AnchorSplash® was held in 1984.
Currently, the chapter holds the highest GPA (3.07) of all sororities on campus and has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.01. The chapter semester GPA is also higher than the All-Women’s average, All-Greek average, and All-Campus average at Roanoke College. The women of Gamma Pi Chapter continue to make an impact on the Roanoke College community.
