Depictive Photography

As you walk down the street and a stranger passes you by, do you nod your head or walk on by? I know in some cultures it’s rude to look a stranger straight in the eye, but where I come from, it is all I have ever been taught. That idea of looking everyone in the eye comes across in my photography.

First impressions are one of the strongest memories about how one can relate to others. A simple interpretation of a person can be made through a glance. How they hold themselves can give the appearance of confidence.

Taking this approach to my photography allows an exploration of their personality and forms a relationship between the viewer and the subject. I may not know all my subjects completely, but I feel like I have my own personal relationship with each individual that I meet. This connection can have a stunning impact on how a photograph can be executed . . . making each photograph as unique as the person.
