More about Disabled Parents Rights

Direct Representation Guidelines

We provide direct representation in a limited number of cases. Please read the guidelines below before requesting legal services. We are a small organization and are not able to provide assistance in the majority of cases. We frequently are not accepting new cases due to current caseloads. A call to our office is not a guarantee of representation. If you are outside Colorado, we are sorry, but we will be unable to assist.

1. Is your case in Colorado?

If yes, please continue to question 2. We can only represent people in Colorado cases. We do not have any attorneys who are licensed to practice law in any other state.

2. Do you financially qualify?

We only represent parents who meet the State of Colorado indigency guidelines. You can download the Colorado Indigency Guidelines.

3. Is your case one of the following:

Dependency and Neglect Cases

Dependency and neglect cases are cases involving social services in Colorado. We provide representation to parents eligible for court appointed counsel in a limited number of cases at any given time. We cannot begin representation if a motion for termination of parental rights has already been filed. We do not accept cases when the parents are not in substantial compliance with their treatment plan. The earlier you contact us, the better. If you have an open case, or believe a case will be opened soon feel free to contact us to see if we have openings to take new cases. Our current geographic focus is Weld, Larimer and Morgan counties, and we give priority to cases in those counties.
Domestic Relations (divorce and child custody)

Are you, or is the other parent trying to change an existing child custody order? If so, we are unable to provide representation. We do not represent parents in child custody modifications.
Are you or the other parent getting divorced, or trying to get an allocation of parental responsibilities? Is the other parent is using your disability to prevent you from having custody? Feel free to contact us to see if we have openings to take new cases.
Adoption

Is your child’s other parent, stepparent or legal guardian/custodian trying to adopt your child against your will? Are they trying to do this because of your disability, or have you been denied custody due to your disability? Has your disability prevented you from staying current with your child support. Feel free to contact us to see if we have openings to take new cases.
ADA or Fair Housing Act Discrimination

We do represent parents in Americans with Disabilities Act and Fair Housing Act discrimination cases when discrimination impacts parenting. Feel free to contact us to have your discrimination case evaluated. You do not need to meet the indigency guidelines to have one of these cases evaluated.
