The District Department of Transportation is an agency within the executive branch of the government of the District of Columbia established to improve the District's economic competitiveness and quality of life by planning and coordinating the transportation system, and managing and maintaining the transportation infrastructure, to ensure the safe, efficient movement of people, goods and information along public rights-of-way.
