Dobie High School

J. Frank Dobie High School is a public secondary school located in Houston, Texas. Founded in 1968, it is named after the Texas writer of the same name. It follows a standard high school model serving grades 9 through 12 and is the largest school in the Pasadena Independent School District. The school mascots are Louie and Lucy the Longhorns and the official colors are orange and white, similar to that of the University of Texas at Austin.Dobie High School was originally located at 11111 Beamer Rd. However, overcrowding problems at the Beamer campus and the rapidly growing population in the South Belt area lead city officials and voters to pass a $199.05 million bond in February 2000. This included a new 490000sqft location to be built at 10220 Blackhawk Blvd which opened in 2003.The original Beamer location is now occupied by Beverly Hills Intermediate School.HistoryIn 2014 PISD announced plans to create a 9th grade center in order to reduce overcrowding at Dobie High. In 2015 the district revealed the design plans for the 9th grade center, and groundbreaking occurred in August 2016.
