The Double C Farm was established in 2001 by two agricultural enthusiasts. Craig Shoemaker has a Ph.D from Auburn University in fisheries and has developed aquaculture vaccines for both catfish and tilapia during his career as a USDA-ARS scientist. Carla Shoemaker obtained her Ph.D in animal science studying ruminant nutrition and meat science and is laboratory manager in the Biological Sciences department at Auburn University. The Double C Farm began with the purchase of two unregistered paint horse mares from a local breeder. The mares were out of the stallion JoeChief Bar and had been breed to Skip Dawn for two years. With the purchase of the two mares came their yearlings and the weanlings from the previous breeding years. We researched the pedigree before purchasing and felt confident that they should be registered with the American Paint Horse Association to enhance the value and pedigree of the mares and the offspring. The Double C Farm joined the Paint Alternative Competition Program in order to enhance the value of our breeding program by earning performance points on our horses’ records. Our farm has participated in the PAC program since 2007 and currently has four APHA horses enrolled. We appreciate the APHA allowing such an important program to contribute to the lifetime record of our horses.
