The main building of Douglass Community Center was originally designed by architect John Bacon Hutchings and built in 1907 as a home of Jefferson Davis Stewart and Abby Churchill Ballard. In 1972, the City of Louisville purchase the property for $175,000, and it became a community center in 1973.
Today, Douglass Community Center consists of three, adjacent buildings: the house, a basketball gym, and an office building. The center offers a wide range of recreational, educational, and athletic programming year-round for a variety of ages.
