Ebenezer UMC graces a hilltop between Branchville and Bethel on U. S. Highway 411.
Ebenezer is the Hebrew word meaning “the stone of help.” It comes from an Old Testament account of God’s giving to Israel the victory over the Philistines. First Samuel 7:12 reads: “Then Samuel took a stone and set in between Mizpah and Shen and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the Lord helped us.”
Ebenezer UMC is a memorial to the faithfulness of God to His people. As sung in a treasured hymn, Jesus is a “rock in a weary land,” and so should a church be—a place where the members not only get spiritual help, but also a place from which they reach out to help those in need in the community. So Ebenezer United Methodist Church has been through its many years.
