More about Edgerton Chamber of Commerce

Chamber Meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at 8am at Rita's Family Dining.

Edgerton is a small community, and most people wear many hats. The Chamber is a lot like that… in our charter it states, “This organization shall act as a clearing house for common ideas, activities, and information and to adapt and translate them into action. This is to be a service to the people of our area who are making Edgerton Ohio the best place to live and earn a living.”

The charter was signed July 8, 1976 organized by a group volunteers who had existed for many years prior to this time as a businessmen’s club; they were interested in improving the cultural and economic welfare of Edgerton, Ohio by offering leadership in co-ordination with education and service programs of public welfare, social, educational and community development.

Over the years, Chamber has been active in many things. When a local boy was killed at an unmarked railroad crossing, they initiated a petition to have signal lights and crossing guard arms at each railroad crossing. They have spearheaded efforts to improve the phone system, worked to keep the Post Office open more hours, assisted both the school and village to pass levies for construction and operation of the schools and village, and in the formation of various support groups for the community; for example, the Edgerton Recreation Association, the public library, the Edgerton Area Foundation, furnished seed money and help to the Edgerton Rotary Club establishing construction of Miller Park and the Pavilion, offered motivational programs for students in high school. To “adapt and translate” ideas and activities into action means we are involving others to obtain the desired results.

Today, anyone with an interest in supporting the community, staying current with the activities in Edgerton can become a member of the Chamber of Commerce. The Edgerton Chamber is a member of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, so we are current on the state basis also.

We currently have 69 members. Because dues of $25.00 for a member or small business do not cover the expense of operating the organization, it becomes necessary to plan other activities that bring the community together such as the Festival of Flags. This is an opportunity for any business, club or organization to host a booth in the park, sell an item, display a product, or offer some type of entertainment for the children or others. Any income returns to the community to support their activities. The Festival was once called “homecoming” and people would return to visit with family and friends. To offset expenses for this festival, especially the cost of the tent, the committee sells raffle tickets. It could not be done without the help of others.

Other community events hosted by the Chamber are the Easter Egg Hunt on the school lawn; the town wide garage sales in the summer; the Fall Fest with chili and pie contest, kids games and craft booths; and Santa comes to town each year with goodies for the children and a photo taking opportunity.
