More about Eglin Aero Modellers

The Eglin Aero Modellers club exists to support and further the hobby/craft of building and flying remote control model aircraft.

The members of the club are ready and willing to support, encourage, and help anyone desiring to become involved in this rewarding hobby.

Many families support and encourage other hobbies/sports but these are mainly engaged in by youngsters while at a sports complex. Radio control model aviation is one recreational hobby where many members of a family may work together and experience the enjoyment, satisfaction, and thrill of making and using a real working model.

Most of this hobby/craft activity may involve several family members and a great amount of time is spent in the home. Model aviation teaches many skills, trains people of all ages, and is very exciting and fulfilling when RC aircraft are flown.

The Eglin Aero Modellers club and the Crestview Model Aviators club have a lifetime of fun and learning to offer the citizens of Okaloosa County. A visit to a flying site or a meeting will illustrate a great variety of model aviation experiences that may be found by individuals desiring to be challenged and who may be seeking a rewarding, exciting experience.

*** Eglin Aero Modellers Flying Field Rules ***
*************************************

Alcohol is not permitted on any Eglin Aero Modellers (EAM) flying area or event. Consumption of alcohol prior to and/or during flying is not permitted.

Access to the EAM flying field is granted by Eglin AFB. Gate combination will not be released without confirmation of AMA and EAM membership.

All people flying at the EAM field will have current Academy of Model Aeronautic (AMA) membership and be either a member of EAM or an authorized guest of a member. Exceptions are allowed if participating in the AMA Introductory Pilot Program.

Members will know and follow all AMA safety and EAM field rules.

All pilots will use the frequency control board by placing their AMA card (or photo copy) in the pocket corresponding with their transmitter frequency before turning on the transmitter. Specific instructions are posted above the frequency control board. If sharing a frequency, inactive transmitter(s) will be place in the impound area while awaiting their turn to fly.

If Amateur Band is to be used, the Pilot must carry the FCC license with them.

Pilots and Spotter must remain behind the Pilot Line, in a designated Pilot box while flying. All Pilots will be notified before aircraft are hand carried to the take-off location, or recovered from the runway.

Take-off and land from designated runways only. DO NOT TAKE OFF FROM THE PIT AREA OR BEHIND OTHER PILOTS

Never over fly spectators, pits, or parking areas.

In all cases, piloted aircraft MUST be avoided. Spotter MUST be used. Flying alone is not advised because of low-flying piloted aircraft. Flying is limited by Air Force Memorandum of Understanding, to 400 feet maximum altitude.

Guests with current AMA membership cards may fly three (3) occasions per calendar year. (an occasion is defined as one (1) day, exceptions are allowed if participating in an EAM sponsored event)

After 12:00 noon, if any member wants to move Flight Operations to the WEST side of the runway, flying operations will cease from the EAST side and GRASS runways. All members will move to the WEST side. Grass runway operations will not take place without prior coordination with all afternoon fliers.

Be courteous! Do not allow propeller blast to disturb other planes or pilots

Do not drive vehicles on improved runway surfaces. Use common sense.
