More about Emerging HOPE Family Strengthening Program, LLC

Mission Statement - The Emerging HOPE Family Strengthening Program empowers under-resourced individuals and families in Kalamazoo County through programs and services that effectively improve their lives.

After experiencing a devastating personal situation, Pamela saw this as an opportunity to reframe the situation to a positive resource for herself and other single parents who would pass through the same treacherous waters she has been able to successfully navigate because of God’s grace and mercy. Therefore, in January 2002 she founded The Emerging HOPE Family Strengthening Program. Emerging HOPE is a practical research based family strengthening program that aims to equip parents with the skills and understanding to raise their children with a commitment to lending a healthy lifestyle. Most of the families served are ethnically diverse, under-resourced single-parenting households.

The Emerging HOPE Family Strengthening Program provides professional, effective leadership and advocacy in integrating ethnically diverse individuals and families to fully participate in society through support and educational resources.

Emerging HOPE Family Strengthening Program strives to model mutuality in our care and concern for individuals and families of under-resourced populations by focusing on their strengths and gifts. We recognize that we are all vulnerable, and true communion can only happen when we practice mutual hospitality with one another. The program has been useful in supporting parents and strengthening parenting skills.

Utilizing her own life experience as a former single parent, she wrote the multicultural, interactive curriculum that is used when teaching most of the courses. Based on more than 20 years of research conducted in Calhoun and Kalamazoo County with African American families, Pamela developed the best practice cutting-edge curriculum. Cultural relevance was a priority; it was ensured via a series of meetings in which African American parents and youth provided feedback on the curriculum.

Since uniting in marriage, the Lord has led Pamela and her husband Curtis to partner together in ministry. Therefore, they have re-launched the Emerging HOPE website and their ministry. As a dynamic team of two – the Lord has placed a heavy mandate in their hearts to reach out to the community like never before.

Emerging HOPE actively seeks collaborative partners for support, in-kind services, programming and finances.

Comments from participants:

Camp last year was truly a blessing for the girls. I want to say Jada and Starr came home different girls. More prayerful girls! Beechpoint Christian Camp was such a lovely place, just beautiful. It’s so crazy, last week at work I had been saying to myself e-mail Pam, then I opened my e-mail up today and there was an message from you. Wow God works in mysterious ways. I want to tell you how much our whole family appreciates you getting our girls involved in something so positive. Again thanks, Jada and Starr would love the opportunity to go to camp again this year and most of all I would just love to send them.

Your presentation at the Youth Advisory Board meeting was excellent. I enjoyed learning the new information and it was conformation on other issues. Thanks and i wish you would have had more time. I hope that all will comprehend that poverty is much more than not having money.

Pamela, I just want to personally thank you for this opportunity that you have giving my three kids. “The camp scholarship program is such a blessing. I am a single parent without extra money to be able to afford to send my children to camp. I am so grateful that you offered my kids the scholarship. I am really glad that you gave my children something I never had, something that would really impact there life.” — Anthony, Emerging H.O.P.E. scholarship recipient camp parent
