Meet our Founder, Dori Roberts:

Dori Roberts began her teaching career in 1999. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Math and Science Elementary/Middle Education in 1997 and a Master of Science degree in Technology Education in 2000.

The International Technology Education Association recognized Mrs. Roberts as an Outstanding Graduate Student in 1999 by awarding her the "Spirit of Excellence Student Citation Award". In 2003, she was awarded "Exemplary Leadership Citation" for her contributions to the development of the Virginia Technology Student Association.

Dori was selected as a "Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction" by The National Society of High School Scholars in 2006. This award recognizes teachers who have made a lasting difference in their classrooms by encouraging students to strive for excellence. She was named the Virginia Technology Student Association's "Advisor of the Year" in 2008. Dori Roberts has taken her TSA team to the top, four years in a row, winning the Virginia TSA State Championship in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011! Her team ranked #4 in the nation at the 2009 TSA National Competition and #5 in 2010. She is no longer a public school teacher, devoting her energy full time to Engineering for Kids.

Engineering for Kids began when she noticed that there was a lack of engineering programs in the area to enroll her then 6 and 8 year old children.

She started out teaching an after school program at a local elementary school. The class was so popular she decided to offer two camps the following summer, which quickly filled up.

Now, four years later she is offering engineering programs in schools and community centers in the greater Fredericksburg area in Virginia.
Programs include after school programs, evening classes, in-school field trips, workshops, birthday parties, home-school programs, scouts workshops, and pre-school programs.
