A watershed is "all of the land that drains water into a particular point, usually a stream, lake or river" (Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Watersheds 101).
A watershed boundary divides a particular drainage basin from the one next to it.
The English River watershed covers approximately 627 square miles of southeastern Iowa. It includes portions of Iowa, Johnson, Keokuk, Mahaska, Poweshiek, and Washington counties, and the communities of Barnes City, Deep River, Gibson, Grinnell, Guernsey, Kalona, Keswick, Kinross, Millersburg, Montezuma, North English, Parnell, Riverside, Webster, and Wellman.
