Expanding Horizons Community Services provides residential services for persons with developmental disabilities. Recognizing people as individuals and not their disabilities enables us to support those who have previously been unable to live in home settings due to their complex medical conditions, severe disabilities or behavioral challenges. We believe that even after years of institutionalization people can have fulfilling lives in a home setting and learn to build relationships within their chosen community. For individuals who are dually diagnosed, with MR/DD or MR/MI this specialized programming focuses on independent skill development as a part of normal living. We recognize and address the needs from both areas of their disability but the primary focus is put on ability, not disability. There is also a special program for individuals with serious and chronic medical conditions. The services and supports are in place so the individual can experience meaningful activities, increase their self-worth and thrive in their chosen community. People with serious disabilities are people first. Just like all people they need love, acceptance, friends, opportunities to participate and chances to excel. Feeling secure and safe is only part of leading a full life. At Expanding Horizons Community services, the whole person will be addressed.
