Empowered Youth of Columbus is a program supported and made possible by Columbus State University Continuing Education. The program helps students meet state and local standards in core academic subjects such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children. EYC is a 21st Century Community Learning Center through the Georgia Department of Education.
EYC serves the needs of the youth of Columbus by providing meaningful out-of-school arts enrichment training as well as academic enrichment for students through a network of public and private partnerships. Arts enrichment activities include but are not limited to dance, photography, art, drama, ASL, yoga, science through art, origami, colorguard, ceramics, gardening, culinary arts, and music. Current partnerships include the Muscogee County School District, the Boys and Girls Club of Columbus, the City of Columbus Crime Prevention Board, the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, and New Horizons.
