More about Faith Community Center

In 1975, a vision "to establish an experiment in ministry ..." was cast.

The Rev. Roger Rozeboom and his family relocated to the Littleton community and then with a small group of people who began meeting in homes and then at Ken Caryl Middle School - embarked on a journey that would later be named Faith Community Center. In these Planting Years, Faith opened its doors in the Columbine Plaza shopping center (located at the NE corner of Ken Caryl and Pierce) seeking to reach out to people who wouldn't be interested in a traditional church.

During the Planting years, while leadership transitions (from Roger Rozeboom to Dick Dietrich) and location changes (from the Shopping Center to Wadsworth Blvd.) took place, a guiding symbol of purpose remained constant - A Broken Cross inviting imperfect people who seek after God's own heart to join in running the race by Faith!

The Developing Years:

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Proverbs 3:3-4

In 1987 the Rev. David Dethmers became the Senior Pastor leading the relocated congregation (1984) into the Developing Years of Faith Community Church. These years marked significant change and development in the life of this decade-old "experiment in ministry."

Along with the planning and construction of its Worship Center in 1993, the facility, life and community of Faith were "marked" in ways that are still evident and being reflected today:

Worship - Through the construction of the Worship Center, three stained glass windows marked during this time and continuing to this day an emphasis in Worship from these Developing Years at Faith. First, Jesus Christ Reigns! ... This circular stained glass window of Christ encompassed in a crown rises above the congregation providing an ever-present reminder of who we worship and by whom we have received salvation by grace through faith. The other two windows ... The Word of God and The Sacraments found on the side walls of the Worship Center reflect the two primary means through which the life and practice of the people of Faith are centered and formed in discipleship.

Missions & Service - The Developing Years also left a mark that is present to this day in the congregation's commitment and participation in Missions & Service. Not surprising, the stained glass window of The Basin and Towel which rises overhead as people leave the Worship Center symbolizes the example offered by Christ to his disciples to go forth and serve others. This additional mark of the Developing Years continues to be reflected in our day through our Stewardship of Time, Talent, and Treasure (with a minimum of 10% of offerings given to missions partners) and through our active involvement in Missions & Service in our Jerusalem, Judea, and to the ends of the earth.

The Faith-Forward Years:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

In 1999 the Rev. Nathan Busker was called after an extended time of interim work by Don Houdeshell. This time of transition included an event that forever changed the "definition of normal" for the community of Littleton - the Columbine Tragedy of April 20, 1999.

As we look to the Faith-Forward Years, it is a time ushered in by previously unimaginable events that challenged and wrote faithfulness on our hearts. During these early years of the 21st century, the "standing stone" moment of Faith was the dedication of the Prayer Garden located at the southwest of the property. A place to "Be still and to know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). A place to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on our own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

In August, 2005, the Rev. Jeff Allen relocated with his family from western Michigan. During the recent years, many have contributed in the shaping of Faith's vision for the future which to a large extent comes out of the foundations of our past.

While Worship and Missions & Service remain a priority - the Holy Spirit guides, intercedes, and continues to direct us forward during these Faith-Forward years in many ways: Significant facility renovations have been completed as we Stepped Up in Stewardship to the responsibility that God has entrusted to us in facilities & finances.
Even more significantly, during these Faith-Forward years the people of Faith have Stepped Up in Discipleship & Life Transformation through the application of God's Word in experiences that daily write "faithfulness" on the tablet of our heart (Proverbs 3:3).

During these Faith-Forward years we are returning to our planting roots reaching out as Bridge-Builders to a new generation of the kingdom of God as we support the planting of Healthy Churches in Littleton (APEX Church), in Englewood (CenterPoint), and to the ends of the earth (in partnership with the Church of South India).
In addition, in these days - Faith's mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ who are growing Up, In, and Out - no excuses is leading to the development of a disciple-making that is impacting the community in tangible ways (i.e.: Senior Access, Severe Weather Shelter Network, Giving Heart, etc).

At Faith Community Church, the years have been filled with blessings, challenges, and experiences that have taught us much together in this place called "FAITH". We are and continue to be a "Small Church on a Big Mission" as together we are "Growing Upward and Inward by Reaching Out - No Excuses!
