More about Faith Tabernacle COGIC

Faith Tabernacle Church History
In 1957, the church formally known as the Monticello Church of God of America, Inc was formed in a small house on a country hill which was founded by Cassie Ammons (Deceased). Mrs. Ammons enquired to then Bishop A.R. Smith Danville, Kentucky of the Church of God of America Inc, that a church needed to be established in Monticello, Kentucky. Many saints from around the area attended the first services. Many individuals have testified that the services were spiritual and many people from the surrounding neighborhood would come to the windows to see what was going on during the services. Many souls were saved and filled with the Holy Ghost.
On Sept 17, 1958 land was purchased and deeded to the Church of God of America for the sum of $1.10. In its 53 year history the church has seen many bishops and pastors throughout its history. These include, but not limited to Bishop A.R. Smith, (Danville, Kentucky) Bishop G.A. Alexander, (Burkesville, Kentucky) who was responsible for the current renovations you see today at the church, Bishop C.K. Beasley (Danville, Kentucky) and Bishop Timothy A. Napier (Danville, Kentucky). During the existence of the former church, there have been several pastors. These pastors, include but are not limited to Pastor Emeritus Cassie Ammons (Deceased) Danville, Kentucky sister of our Senior Church Mother Antha Mae Hunter (Dennis). Pastor Emeritus Kate Johnson (Deceased) Danville, Kentucky. Pastor Emeritus Joseph A. McAdoo (Deceased) Somerset, Kentucky, Pastor Emeritus Ernestine Flora (Tina) Smith (Deceased) Campbellsville, Kentucky, The Right Reverend Bishop William Paul Hardin who was consecrated as Bishop in 2007 Somerset, Kentucky by our current bishop, Bishop James H. Bell Sr .

Pastor Perry Cunningham, Somerset, Kentucky, and finally Administrative Assistant Superintendent Gregory Chaney, Detroit, Michigan. Superintendent Gregory Chaney has kept the tradition alive of holiness and sanctification at the church. The church then transitioned to the Church of God (independent) on January 18, 2008, the church changed its name and its affiliation to “Faith Tabernacle Church of God”, after several months Faith Tabernacle Church of God included the remaining phrase “in Christ” when we became affiliated with the “Church of God in Christ”. On April 19, 2008, our Pastor Superintendent Elder Gregory Chaney was installed as pastor during ceremonies at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Monticello, Kentucky by our Jurisdictional Prelate Bishop James H. Bell, Sr. Our Pastor Administrative Assistant Supt. Gregory Chaney and First Lady Mother Martha Chaney and members are now part of the Kentucky Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ, where the Jurisdictional prelate is Bishop James H. Bell, Sr. On June 2011, Superintendent Gregory Chaney and the trustees of Faith Tabernacle COGIC purchased two parcels of land from the Church of God of America. On August 21, 2011 Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ held dedication services for the newly purchased building. Jurisdictional Prelate Bishop James H. Bell Sr. conducted the ceremony. This property had been their home for many years. We give thanks to our God for allowing us the opportunity to do a greater work for him.

Reverentially Submitted,
Gregory Chaney
