More about Families Against Narcotics

WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2007, Families Against Narcotics (FAN) is a grass roots organization based in Macomb County, Michigan. FAN’s membership includes parents affected by addiction, concerned citizens, law enforcement, judges, leaders in education, business, and religion, and recovering addicts. FAN also has 12 Chapters located throughout the State.

WHAT WE DO
We work together to raise awareness of our Country’s fastest-growing narcotics problem prescription drug abuse. We educate communities on the specific dangers of abusing prescription opiate-based painkillers such as Vicodin, Oxycontin and Percocet, and the potential to lead some to heroin use. We provide a support network of families affected by addiction and those in recovery.

THE NEW FACE OF ADDICTION
Prescription drugs have become the “drug of choice” among young people age 12-18. Most who misuse, believe they are safer than illicit drugs because they are prescribed by health care professionals. Yet, prescription painkillers are every bit as addictive and deadly as heroin, when abused.

We lose a person over 14 minute to drug overdose in our country. Many are between the age of 18-25. Thousands more are struggling or in recovery. These are good kids from good families. And it’s happening everywhere — no neighborhood is immune. Be informed. Knowledge saves lives.

TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE
Join us in keeping our families and communities safe:
• Challenge doctors and dentists to prescribe non-narcotic painkillers for you and your family
• Safeguard narcotic painkillers and dispose of unused medications responsibly
• Talk to your children about the dangers of abusing prescription medications and heroin use
If you suspect a loved one is in trouble, seek help immediately.
