Fancy Photography

I am a self taught photographer...no formal training here...It is what I feel is my God given talent and my purpose here in this life.
Growing up, I was the family photographer for all the occasions, pets, family get togethers, holidays etc.
I did not realize then what I was doing wasn't just taking pictures it was documenting events for the future. but since the passing of family members it became clear to me just what the power of a photo could do.
I suppose the old saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" really is true. I can look at old photos of my Dad, John Alvis and see his reassuring smile and still know what advice he would give me today.
I can see my Aunt Sherry with her soft features and how much fun she was!
I can see my granny, Neta Oates, and her crystal clear blue eyes and how spunky she was.
These old photos help my family and I revisit the "dorky" haircuts (purple, John you know what I am talking about). The special vacations. The band contests (with the unreal high waisted uniforms, I still can't believe I wore those in public!).
But more importantly these photographs make us laugh, reflect, tell the "old stories" and yes sometimes cry.
It made me realize that you only get one chance to photograph a once-in-a-lifetime event.
Photos to me are tiny fraction of a second that existed at a certain place and time...and which forever after is both a memory and a story.
Whether is be a graduation, pageant, pet, engagement, marriage or birth I feel that I have been truly blessed to be a part of so many lives.
I love that I was there for that moment and have made it possible for the to revisit that special time whenever they choose through photographs that I have taken.
