The Federal Correctional Institution, Bennettsville is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in South Carolina. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. The facility also includes an adjacent prison camp for minimum-security male inmates.FCI Bennettsville is located in northeast South Carolina, approximately 70 miles from Myrtle Beach and 100 miles from Columbia, the state capital.Notable incidentsIn August 2012, Dawud Abdullah Khalid, age 37, was charged in a one-count indictment with escaping from FCI Bennettsville on July 17, 2012. He faces a maximum sentence of 5 additional years in prison. The case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service. Khalid is currently incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution, Marianna, a medium-security facility in Florida, and is scheduled for release in 2017.
