More about First Baptist Church Falkville

The First Baptist Church of Falkville exists to honor the Lord through worship, praise, fellowship, Bible study and changed lives. The affections of our hearts are to have a deeper and more meaningful relationship with the Lord daily. The object of our faith is the one who gives life and gives life more abundantly. The desire to worship Him is a central theme throughout our lives as a church.

The family atmosphere at First Baptist is a quality like none other. God desires for us to love Him and to show our passion for Him through the relationships we make while preparing for His work. Giving to each other the love and support needed to make it in this world today is completed when the love is shown through the power of God. We strive to share the love of Christ with one another and to allow our love for God and each other to be shown to those around us.

We invite you to come and be a part of this dynamic experience as we continue to placed God #1 on our priority list. In a world where there are no absolutes taught, God is an absolute and desires to have a relationship with you. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the one who sticks closer than a brother and Jesus is the one who will never leave you nor forsake you. Claim the promises given to you by the One who died for you. As we meet to worship and praise the risen Savior of the world, join us for this incredible journey.

HISTORY: On July 10, 1887, a group of twelve led by Thomas J. Weaver, Missionary from the Muscle Shoals Association, and Elder W.G.W. Smith, came together to form what is today Falkville First Baptist Church. The church was first named the "Missionary Baptist Church of Christ at Falkville," and met on the fourth Sabbath and Saturday before each month. Elder J.E. Weaver held the first service on August 31, 1887.

By July 1889 the first house of worship was completed. In 1900, the Sunday School was organized with J.L. Simpson as Superintendent. In 1909, the congregation moved into a new church building. J.M. McCord was pastor and services were conducted on a regular basis.

On March 12, 1944, the church building was destroyed by fire. While the new building was being constructed, Sunday School met at Falkville High School and Falkville Methodist Church shared their building for preaching services. The present sanctuary was completed in 1947 and the baptistery and Sunday School .annex building were completed in 1953. An addition to the education building was completed in 1986, and the sanctuary renovated in 1996.

2012 marks First Baptist Falkville's 125 year of service to our Lord.
