More about First Baptist Church Orange Springs

Our story begins sometime in the 1950s. We "were" once known as Orange Springs Baptist Church inc. And we later changed to the First Baptist Church of Orange Springs. We are a Southern Baptist church who believes that corporate worship is necessary for spiritual growth, and spiritual accountability. We are connected with the Marion Baptist Association and we give a percentage of our tithes to help them in missions both nationally & internationally.

Our pastor also finds ways of serving their needs through attending conferences and seminars. We absolutely love our Baptist Association and our community as we welcome everyone to the First Baptist Church of Orange Springs. Just to give you an idea of where we stand as a church.

Below is summary of our beliefs:

The Bible

- We believe the Scriptures are divinely inspired by God and are without error in it's original manuscripts. God has supernaturally prescribed the Bible. It is the sole and final authority for faith and life providing encouragement, guidance, comfort and instruction for training in righteousness. (2 Tim. 3:16-17) (2 Peter 1:20-21)

The Trinity

- We believe in the GODHEAD TRINITY, is one true God eternally existing in three distinct persons. God the Father, God the Son & God the Holy Ghost. Each of whom is fully and equally God, possessing all of the divine natives and attributes and is totally worthy of our Worship Service. (Deut. 6:4)
(Matt 28:19) (John 1:14) (John 10:30) (2 Cor. 13:14)

1) God the Father

We believe that God the Father is the First person of the trinity and is the eternal, unchanging all powerful, all knowing, all wise, all loving, completely just and perfectly holy, sovereign Ruler of the universe. He is the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Father of all true believers. (Gen. 1:1) (Eph. 4:6) (John 1:12-13) (John 5:19-21) (John 17:1-5) (Isa. 40:21-26) (Isa. 43:10-13) (Isa. 46:8-11) (Rom. 8:14-15)

2) God the Son

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Second person of the Trinity and is the only begotten Son of God who became flesh to reveal God to man, to fulfill prophecy, and to become the Savior of the lost world. In becoming man Jesus did not cease in any way to be God, He is fully God and fully man inseparable, united in one person forever. Jesus was miraculously conceived by the Holy Spirit, born in the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died on the cross as the substitutionary, all sufficient atoning sacrifice for all of the sins of all men of all time, He was buried; bodily rose from the dead; physically ascended into heaven in His glorified, resurrected body. He is seated at the right hand of the Father performing His ministry or intercession, and will return in the air to claim His bride the church. He will come again to earth in the bodily form, personally and visibly to human history and consummate God's eternal plan by executing judgment and ushering in His Millennial Kingdom reign to be followed by the eternal state. (John 1:1,14,18) (John 3:16) (Luke 1:30-35) (Phil. 2:5-8) (Col. 2:3,9) (Mark 10:45) (Acts 2:22-24) (John 1:29) (John 20:20) (Rom. 3:25-26) (Heb. 10:5-14) (1 Pet. 2:24) (1 Pet. 3:18) (Phil. 3:20-21) (Heb. 1:3) (Rom. 8:34) (1 John 2:1) (Acts 1:11) (Heb. 9:8) (I Thes. 4:13-18) (2 Thes. 2:7) (Matt. 24:44) (Rev. 21-22)

3) God the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the Third person of the Trinity who especially came into the world on the day of Pentecost to glorify Christ and to enable men to appropriate the salvation wrought by Christ. He is the primary agent for the conviction of sin and for regeneration. Simutaneously with salvation until the Holy Spirit imparts new life, baptizes the believer into the body of Christ (His Church) permanently indwells the believer and securely seals the believer until the day of redemption. The Holy Spirit fills (directs and controls) those believers who are yielded to Him, enables believers to bear fruit, and empowers believers to live a life free from sins dominion. We also believe that the Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to believers for the purpose of edifying the church in accordance with the teachings of scripture. (1 Cor. 13:8) (1 Cor. 14:22) (John 16:7-8) (1 Cor. 6:19) (Eph. 1:13-14) (Gal. 5:15-17)

Sin

- We believe in the total depravity of man by his own merits or effort. Mankind is totally incapable of saving himself. He is spiritually and physically dead, unless restored through the work of Christ. We believe God created man in His own image, that we are not a work of evolution. That man was created to glorify, worship and serve God. But man failed and fell through. Apart from Christ we are all lost or dead in our trespasses and sin. (Gen. 1:26) (Rom. 3:9) (Rom. 3:23)

Satan

- We believe that Satan is real. That he is the instigator of ALL evil and a real spirit. He is a fallen angel who, under the sovereign permission of God, has been given temporary ruler-ship of the earth. He was utterly defeated at the Cross, although bound throughout the Millennial Kingdom, the execution of his judgment has been postponed by God until after the Millennial Kingdom. Then Satan will be cast into the Lake of Fire. In the meantime, he deceives the world and seeks to establish the counterfeit kingdom on earth—and destroy believers. He can be resisted by the believer through faith and reliance on the Power of the Holy Ghost. (John 5:19) (2 Cor. 11:14) (Gen. 3:1-5) (Isa. 14:12-17) (1 Tim. 3:6) (James 4:7) (Rev. 12:9) (Rev. 20:1-3)

Salvation

- We believe salvation is by faith. When Jesus Christ offered Himself as a living sacrifice, shedding His blood at the Cross, He provided the sole basis for forgiveness of sins, offering salvation, which is the free gift of God’s Grace. Work does not produce faith, faith produces work, through the remission of sins and the gift of Jesus Christ; the Holy Spirit. (Eph. 1:7) (John 1:12-13) (2 Cor. 5:17) (Rom. 10:9-10) (Acts 26:20) (John 3:1-7) (Rom. 1:6) (Eph. 2:8-10) (John 10:27-29) (1 Pet. 1:3-5)

Life

- We believe that we should live for Christ and not for ourselves, but by the Power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, allowing Christ to manifest His life through us for God’s glory. We do this by increasing in obedience to the Word of God. Were each called to be like Jesus, in mind and spirit.
(Gal. 2:20) (1 Pet. 2:11) (Rom. 6:11-13) (Eph. 4:11-12) (Acts 1:8) (Col. 1:10) (2 Cor. 5:14-15) (Eph. 2:10) (Matt. 28:18-20)

1) Live a Holy Life; not full of lusts of the flesh,

2) Exercise his spiritual gifts to build up the body of Christ,

3) Witness for Christ,

4) Be personally involved in making disciples to fulfill the Great Commission,

5) Perform good works,

6) And bear good fruit to the Glory of God.

Church

- We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ of which Jesus is the Head and whose members are those who have truly received Christ by faith. (1 Cor. 12:27)

Resurrection

- We believe in the Hope of the Resurrection which is the second coming. We believe that Christ’s return is eminent. At that time ALL believers who have died will rise up out of their graves and will meet the Lord in the air. Christians that remain, will be caught up with them to be with the Lord forever! (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) (Revelation 1:7) (Revelation 22:12-13)

Great Commission

- We believe in the Great Commission and all believers are commanded to go make disciples. Because we are the hands and feet of Jesus in sharing the Gospel Message. (Phil. 2:10) (Matt. 28:19-20) (Acts 1:8)

Ordinances

- We believe in the Ordinance of Baptism & the Lord’s Supper. We believe that Christian Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Baptism does not save, but is an acknowledgement of one’s faith in Christ. Although it provides no remission of sin, it is required by the scriptures for believers to do the following: Repent and Convert. (Matt. 3:13-17) (Matt. 28:19-20) (1 Cor. 11:23-26) (John 6:53-59)

Christian Home

- We believe in the Christian Home. That marriage is ordained of God for man-kinds welfare happiness; that the institution of marriage is honored by the Lord Jesus Christ and the marriage bed is honorable. For the believer, marriage is to be “In the Lord” and only to another believer. God’s order of authority in the Christian family is Christ the Head, followed by the husband, then the wife, and finally, the children. (Gen. 1:28, 2:18, 23, 24) (John 2:1-11) (Heb. 13:4) (2 Cor. 6:14) (Eph. 5:21-28, 6:4)

Sex & Marriage

- We believe it is totally against the command and teaching of the Word of God to change or prevent this order. Homosexuality, Lesbianism or any other sexual relationship outside of marriage is contrary to the Word of God. We do not accept these as an alternative life style. (Romans 1:18-32)

- We believe that from the very beginning God never intended for husband and wife to be separated or divorced. The Lord, speaking through Paul, instructed the wife not to leave her husband, and husband not to put away his wife. We believe divorce and remarriage is contrary to God’s perfect will. (Matt. 19:6) (1 Cor. 7:10-11)
