Founded: 1911

On August 11, 1911, Hawaii’s first insurance company was born. Soon after it received its charter, Home Insurance Company of Hawaii, Ltd., the forerunner of First Insurance Company, moved into its first permanent head office above the Gunst Cigar Store on the mauka-ewa corner of King and Fort Streets.

In the 100 years since, our company has changed its name, moved headquarters and transformed to meet the evolving needs of Hawaii’s policyholders. Today, First Insurance, which writes business through 28 independent agencies across Hawaii, is the oldest and largest property and casualty insurance carrier in the state, with risk management solutions designed specifically with Hawaii’s businesses and families in mind.

During our 100 year history, we have strived to provide the best possible service to our customers. We have also sought to perpetuate our continuing place in the community, a commitment passed on from previous generations of employees to the associates who work at First Insurance today.
