First Presbyterian Church of Buffalo, NY

First Presbyterian Church of Buffalo, the oldest faith community in the city of Buffalo, was established on February 2, 1812 with just ten members. First Church will entered its third century of ministry in 2012! First Church became the “New” First Church on May 27, 2008 when the congregations of First and Central Presbyterian consolidated into one. It has been a beautiful union!

First Church might be historic, but it sure isn’t stuffy. Home to a diverse congregation drawing from downtown Buffalo, as well as Niagara County, and even Ontario, Canada, people from different walks of life, ethnicities, and races can find a welcoming faith community.

The church is located at Symphony Circle, the cultural heart of Buffalo’s West Side. Famed architect, E.B. Green, designed the exquisite Romanesque structure. Authentic Tiffany stained glass windows and Byzantine furnishings appoint the interior décor. First Church is a beautiful, historic site, which has been highlighted in many local architectural tours and publications.

First Church has a long tradition as faithful Christians working to make a difference. From helping newly arrived African refugees learn to read English; to tutoring neighborhood kids after school; to feeding the hungry—First Church continues her ministries of compassion from day to day.
