Fish Dayton was founded in 2012 as the "brain child" of community volunteer, Dennis Tumlin. In 2011, Tumlin approached the Dayton City Council and shared a vision about what Lake Chickamauga and Dayton could become. This vision was based on what other communities were doing with their natural resource such as Eufaula, AL & Guntersville, AL. The Dayton City Council appointed Tumlin and then City Councilman Gary Louallen to "explore" opportunities and bring them back before the Council. Tumlin shared the vision of a website called "FishDayton" with the council who agreed that it would be a great way to promote our area and build tourism. The Council then engaged Keener Marketing in Dayton to build and operate the website under Tumlin"s direction as a community volunteer role. Louallen shared a vision for a better facility and the Council agreed that we needed improvements, so a new building was constructed to help us host our events. By working together, each entity has built the "Fish Dayton" brand as one of the best host cities in the nation. In 2014, Tumlin was able to leave a 16 year Coca-Cola career to become the Executive Director of Rhea County Economic Development & Tourism Council, Inc. The "Fish Dayton" operation was assumed as the tourism recruiting operation of the R.E.T.C. and is still managed today by Tumlin in conjunction with the Board of Directors.
