More about Float Houston Health and Wellness

Float Houston is an oasis for the soul. Since our opening in 2008, we strive to make every floatation experience as individual as you are – providing a safe, nurturing environment for you to replenish your mental and emotional reserves. Inside the tank, you are the author of your own movie. With no commands needing to be sent out, the logical side of the brain takes a needed break, and its activity slows down until it balances with the creative side. In addition to increased creativity, it is well-documented that stress accelerates all ailments. Our mission is to assist you in releasing the stress of your daily life, and provide your body with the rest and healing it needs for you to go about your day energized and prepared to welcome life on life’s terms.

A floatation tank is a small, enclosed tank measuring approximately 8 feet long by 4 feet wide and 4 feet high. Inside the tank is 600-800 pounds of pharmaceutical grade Epsom salt dissolved in 250 gallons of skin temperature water (93.5 degrees). The water in the tank is only 10 inches deep, but so dense that any person floats like a cork. The tanks have doors that can be closed by each floater so that the parts of your body that are out of the water don’t get cooler than the parts that are underwater. The buoyancy of the water makes it impossible for you to flip over or be submerged.

The term Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (or REST) is used to describe the physical process that underlies floatation. The floatation tank drastically reduces outside environmental stimulation – gravity, temperature, touch, sight, and sound. The effects of the tank greatly lessen tension on the muscles, nervous system, sense organs, and brain, which allows the body and mind to enter deep levels of relaxation in a short amount of time.
